It is believed to have originated in India and was practised by the old sages and monks. Today, it is believed that more than 100 forms of yoga exist. They can be fast paced, intense or may be slow and gentle.

Yoga for fitness currently is becoming a trend all over the world. Positive impacts on quality of life, spiritual growth and anxiety reduction has been found through yoga. 21 June was declared as International Day of Yoga by United Nations General Assembly after recognising its benefits.
